Warsaw, Poland, February 24, 2025—During an informal meeting of the European Union’s telecom ministers in Warsaw this March, Poland intends to put forth a declaration on EU-wide cybersecurity.

This initiative seeks to strengthen the EU’s cybersecurity infrastructure in light of increasing threats from cyberspace.

Poland intends to issue a declaration alongside EU Minister, concerning unifying member states’ strategies for cybersecurity to foster higher level cooperation, improve information sharing and create strong defenses against potential cyberattacks. As the senior official for Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs put it, “The intention is to construct a strong and integrated cybersecurity structure around the EU.”

This development follows the deliberate cyber-attacks on critical services within the borders of the EU over the past calendar year.

The Polish Government thinks a single policy that addresses these dangers is vital in safeguarding the cyber sovereignty of the countries in the Union.

During the informal meeting in Warsaw, the telecom Ministers will have the opportunity to examine the particulars of the declaration, potential problems that could arise, and plans that must be set in motion to address those issues.

The Polish Minister for Digital Affairs, Jan Kowalski remarked that there is need for urgency by claiming,

“Cybersecurity is not only a question of a nation; it is a question of national and collective action which needs to be taken with immediate effect.”

When embraced, the declaration is set to establish minimum requirements for cyber security management, task forces for responding to intra-EU cross border incidents, and higher spending in cyber security military systems within the EU region will also be promoted.

These initiatives will have a strong cooperative component concerning the willingness and commitment of all members to ensure that cybersecurity is prioritized for every citizen regardless of the EU state they come from.

With the advancement of the digital world, it is key to make sure that as there is more virtualization, there should also be more anticipation when it comes to risks concerning security. The upcoming meeting in Warsaw will be a step to achieve that purpose.
