AI Singapore and UN Join Forces to Take AI Literacy Global — Transforming Lives in 6 Nations!
SINGAPORE, May 29, 2025 — In a strategic move towards bridging the global AI literacy gap, AI Singapore (AISG) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to scale up the roll-out of this initiative to six pilot nations in Southeast Asia, Pacific Islands, and the Caribbean.
With nearly a third of the world’s population remaining offline, the collaboration will study obstacles including cost, digital illiteracy, and the absence of infrastructure. Now, the initiative, titled AI4Good-AISG, will expand globally to other underserved groups, having been initiated in 2024 to establish national AI capacity in Singapore.
The goals of this MOU are: promoting AI literacy, empowering trainers, developing inclusive AI education, promoting ethical AI awareness, and building institutional capacity to undertake literacy work. The program will target marginalized groups and prepare them with the AI skills needed for employment, entrepreneurship, and civic participation.
“AI does not just present an opportunity; it offers many possibilities. Our AI4Good initiative in Singapore is a testament to its transformative power, as Singaporeans are empowered with the right tools and knowledge to actively engage in the digital economy. Yet, the full potential of AI remains untapped. To fully realise its benefits, we must pursue a more inclusive and sustainable global society, both within Singapore’s borders and beyond. This demands bold, innovative partnerships with organisations who share our commitment to bridging the digital divide, and we look forward to the partnership with UNDP to make this vision a reality,” said Mr Koo Sengmeng, Director of AI Talent Development, AI Singapore.
Teachers will also be empowered to incorporate AI in different forms into the learning space. Ethical development and sustainability of AI in accordance with the UN SDGs is the ultimate goal.
“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving and holds enormous potential to transform societies and advance sustainable development. To ensure everyone can benefit from this transformation, our efforts must be rooted in equity and sustainability. Through our partnership with AI Singapore, UNDP and the countries we serve gain access to cutting-edge learning and accelerated AI literacy,” said Mr Robert Opp, Chief Digital Officer, United Nations Development Programme.
AISG and UNDP have proven their dedication to ensuring everyone, irrespective of their geography or socioeconomic background, reaps the benefits of AI.
