DigitalOcean Launches Single Sign-On to Streamline Cloud Security and Access

DigitalOcean Holdings, Inc., recognized as the simplest scalable cloud for digital-native businesses, has announced the launch of Single Sign-On (SSO) support. With this new integration, the company aims to deliver secure and frictionless authentication to all DigitalOcean accounts, strengthening both security and user experience.

By rolling out Single Sign-On, DigitalOcean empowers businesses to centralize user access while streamlining the entire process of onboarding and offboarding. Built on the industry-standard OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocol, the solution ensures authentication that is both secure and reliable. The platform initially connects with Okta as its first Identity Provider (IdP) and will expand to support other leading IdPs in the future.

For cloud-native teams that are scaling rapidly, SSO provides a seamless way to access resources without adding complexity or extra costs. Unlike many providers that limit advanced features to higher tiers, DigitalOcean includes enterprise-grade security, automated user management, and role-based control across all plans. This approach allows teams to stay focused on innovation rather than administrative tasks like login management.

The newly launched SSO offers several powerful features:

  • IdP integration & centralized access control: Directly connects DigitalOcean with existing IdPs and enforces critical security policies such as MFA, IP restrictions, and password requirements.
  • Automated user provisioning: Automatically creates new accounts and assigns roles based on group membership when users log in for the first time.
  • Role-based access: Syncs identity provider groups with DigitalOcean roles to simplify permissions management.
  • Automated offboarding: Immediately removes user access when accounts are deactivated in the IdP.
  • Flexible enforcement options: Allows administrators to choose between strict SSO-only authentication or a hybrid model with traditional logins.

Bratin Saha, Chief Product and Technology Officer at DigitalOcean, highlighted the company’s mission behind this update, stating: “The addition of Single Sign-On underscores DigitalOcean’s commitment to delivering enterprise-grade security without enterprise complexity or cost. Unlike other cloud providers that gate SSO and automated user management behind premium tiers, DigitalOcean includes these capabilities for every customer. By making secure authentication and frictionless onboarding a built-in part of our platform, we help growing teams spend less time managing access and more time innovating and scaling.”
