New CMMC Ready Suite capability brings secure messaging and file sharing together to keep sensitive work moving

Exostar today introduced Exostar Secure Exchange™, a new application in its CMMC Ready Suite™ that helps defense contractors securely exchange Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) with authorized people inside and outside their organizations. Secure Exchange combines chat-style messaging and file sharing in a protected environment, keeping sensitive conversations connected to the documents that support them.

Defense runs on CUI. Drawings, specifications, and questions about sensitive work move between customers, prime contractors, and suppliers every day. Protecting that information within one company addresses only part of the challenge. Teams also need a secure way to discuss and share it with the next company in the supply chain.

Secure Exchange gives those exchanges a place of their own. Teams can ask a question, attach the supporting file, and continue the conversation with authorized recipients. Messages and attachments are protected with end-to-end encryption in a Microsoft GCC High environment that meets FedRAMP Moderate equivalency requirements.

“Our customers need to protect CUI and keep commitments to the companies that depend on them,” said Derrick Reig, Chief Revenue Officer at Exostar. “That means getting a drawing to a supplier, answering a question, and moving the work forward securely. Secure Exchange extends the value of our CMMC Ready Suite to those everyday exchanges across the defense supply chain.”

Secure Exchange helps organizations:

  • Discuss sensitive work across company lines. Bring authorized recipients into individual or group conversations with controlled participation.
  • Keep files connected to the conversation. Select a file in the conversation’s files panel to jump to the message where it was shared, including any accompanying questions or instructions.
  • Identify information that needs protected handling. Apply CUI markings to messages and attachments before sending.
  • Keep work moving when responsibilities change. Transfer conversation management to another eligible participant while retaining existing messages and files.

“A file rarely tells the whole story. There’s a question behind it, an explanation, or a follow-up that someone needs before they can act,” said Jeff Ladner, Chief Product Officer at Exostar. “Secure Exchange keeps that conversation with the file, so authorized recipients can understand the request and respond in the same secure workspace.”

Exostar Secure Exchange builds on the trusted Exostar Community, connecting 65,000 active organizations across the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and has welcomed 1.4 million users to the platform to date. Users sign in through Exostar Managed Access Gateway (MAG) and join conversations they’re authorized to access. Email notifications bring participants back to the application without exposing conversation subjects, messages, or attachments.

Together, these capabilities support CUI protection and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) readiness. Customers remain responsible for authorized sharing, appropriate handling, and implementing their assigned security controls.

Secure Exchange is included in the CMMC Ready Suite for existing customers and is available to new customers through the suite. It is not sold separately.
