IBM Launches AI Suitcase Demo at Osaka Expo 2025
OSAKA, JAPAN, 11TH APRIL 2025-IBM Japan is now accepting public bookings for an onsite trial of its autonomous navigation robot ‘AI Suitcase’ before the expo 2025 in Osaka.
The AI Suitcase helps the visually impaired navigate through crowds independently, as it incorporates spatial recognition, voice commands, and advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles.
This spring at the Kansai Expo site, the demo will begin, marking an important step for AI Assistive technology.
The AI Suitcase behaves like a guide dog. It identifies routes, crosswalks and pedestrians in real-time. In order to provide compact robotics and enablement, it was developed with Shimizu Corporation, Alps Alpine, and Ory Laboratory, combining IBM’s AI with Robotics.
Kenji Miyamoto, IBM Japan’s Project Lead said,
“This is not merely a tech demonstration. It’s a hopeful vision for mobility inclusion.”
“We hope to prove how AI can be used to assist and not just for automating tasks like a tool,”
Commented Ory Yoshifuji, Ory Laboratory’s CEO.
Those attending the expo will be able to book the experience via IBM Japan’s website. Efforts to market socially assistive AI robotics and real-life integration of AI in daily tasks have intensified recently, which will give the organizers potential high numbers of participants.
The AI Suitcase helps further advance the goal of Expo 2025, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” which aims towards an intelligent technology integration in Japan.
This demonstration will act as both a user trial and a data collection venture for improvement.
“Technology should be proactive in adjusting towards the individual rather than conversely,”
Said Shimizu Corporation’s Naoko Tanaka, Accessibility Specialist.
Updates and additional comments from participants will be made available during the course of the expo. According to IBM, this serves as the groundwork of a greater initiative for implementation in real-world settings.
