LIVERPOOL, UK, 5TH MAY, 2025 – Kyndryl has been widely known to be a global leader in enterprise technology services and has officially announced the opening of the Kyndryl AI Innovation Lab Liverpool in the Royal Liver Building.

The event is a watershed moment in the strategic investment into the tech ecosystem of the city and into Kyndryl’s unceasing drive to remedy the global AI skills gap.

The lab’s launch corresponds with a modern infrastructure built sustainably to support collaboration with customers in the UK and beyond, capital for AI, data science, and software engineering work. It is an additional launch with a core team of experts and apprentices, targeting the creation of as many as 1,000 AI jobs within the next three years.

John Chambers, Kyndryl United Kingdom and Ireland President, said,

“We are exceptionally proud to invest in the Liverpool City Region by opening the Kyndryl AI Innovation Lab Liverpool that champions collaboration, creative excellence and digital curiosity. Choosing the Royal Liver Building was a proactive decision to celebrate the city’s rich heritage, while aligning with our sustainability goals of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.”

“With businesses eager to develop AI capabilities, our new Kyndryl AI Innovation Lab Liverpool represents a significant step in addressing the AI skills gap,”

Said Chambers. “Only 29% of leaders currently feel prepared for AI-related challenges, yet the demand for these skills continues to grow. By fostering AI innovation here in Liverpool, we aim to ensure that organizations — both locally and beyond — are ready to capitalize on the transformative power of AI.”

In the lab, a Kyndryl Vital Studio will be established as a shared workspace for businesses to develop AI-powered solutions to tackle real-world challenges. Some Kyndryl Consult professionals will have the ability to consult customers concerning emerging technologies and platform engineering, while the lab itself features amenities such as a gym, wellness studio, café, and rooftop beehive, all powered by renewable energy sources in line with Kyndryl’s Net Zero 2040 sustainability target.

The cooperation was a significant highlight of this launch, which Kyndryl is expanding with The Very Group for end-to-end engineering solutions to enhance customer digital experience and quicken product delivery.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said:

“The Royal Liver Building has stood as a symbol of our region’s ambition and identity for over a century — so it’s fitting that it is to become home to a project that’s looking firmly to the future.”

“Kyndryl’s new AI Innovation Lab is a major investment in our region and a massive show of confidence in the talent we have here. It will bring up to 1,000 quality jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities for local people — helping to put our residents at the heart of one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world. I want the Liverpool City Region to be a leader in artificial intelligence — but the kind that makes a difference to people’s lives. AI that’s ethical, inclusive and used for good. And with the skills, the infrastructure and the political will we’ve built, I believe we’re in the perfect place to make that happen,” he added.

The Kyndryl AI Innovation Lab Liverpool reflects the company’s ambition of training and empowering the next generation of AI professionals.
