DNB-Ericsson’s 5G Advanced in Malaysia: Ultra-Low Latency Connectivity

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 4th February 2025 – The introduction of 5G Advanced was done on the DNB network and with this, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and Ericsson has collaborated to become one of the first networks to utilize this.  

By using artificial intelligence, this new technology improves the user experience with extremely low latency and high throughput which makes the overall experience immersive.  The event took place live at DNB’s My5G Portal experience center in TRX. The Minister of Digital, YB Gobind Singh Deo, was the one who officiated the event.  

Other presence included leaders from nomadic network operators and other government agencies. A live band performance during the event greatly showcased the seamless experience with members of the band located in two places. 

 Because of the ultra-low latency, high effective and dependable 5G Advanced, the band was able to play together at different venues. The remarkable demonstration illustrated the possibilities of remote surgery, immersive education and other use cases.  

5G Advanced is built with a focus foundation of 5G and permits users to have a consistent and superior experience anywhere anytime.  

Also DNB network will benefit from the use of Bluetooth thanks to Ericsson’s AI intent-based operations making it easier to build a high operating network with very few interfered signals. The user experiences as well as consumer and enterprise applications that were not possible with standard 5G are now enhanced due to these advancements.  

Ericsson’s RedCap offers 5G Advanced solutions with wider range of uses by extending battery life and simplifying industry sensor and wearable devices.  

For enterprises, this translates to improved IoT deployments, better operational efficiencies, and innovation at a lower cost. 5G Advanced also allows intent-based solutions, such as Automated Energy Saver, which enables subscription-based energy performance maximization from Ericsson’s Energy Efficiency and Management portfolio.  

YB Gobind mentioned in his speech that he expressed his hope that this update regarding Malaysia’s 5G network will allow for a wider adoption of 5G technologies,  

“In order to accelerate Malaysia’s digital transformation, broadening the use of 5G services in various enterprises is critically important. It sets Malaysia on the path of a leading 5G region during ASEAN Chair in 2025 and helps us strengthen the region’s digital investment opportunities,” he said.  

DNB’s CEO, Datuk Azman Ismail said, “There is no better region appreciated like Asia Pacific for the performance and reliability of our 5G network.” 

By utilizing advanced tools to innovate and deliver remarkable products and services, DNB hopes to aid enterprises in healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, oil, gas, agriculture, tourism, and more to accelerate their digitalization journey with 5G Advanced.

Ericsson’s Head in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Bangladesh, David Hagerbro, says, “DNB Network has switched on the 5G Advanced capability, so it is working. Ericsson will also work together with DNB 5G Advantage in order to develop its capabilities to make the network more intelligent, efficient, and secure. With DNB being a global leader in 5G, launching 5G Advanced will allow them to solidify their status.”  

DNB is still spearheading the adoption of 5G technology by collaborating with enterprises and businesses as well as conducting educational programs. 

 DNB’s ‘My5G Portal’, DNB’s immersive 5G experience center, provides a window to over 12 industries showcasing how 5G has the potential to revolutionize the way people work, live, and interact.  

By the end of December 2024, subscription to 5G services in Malaysia is anticipated to reach 18.2 million, marking adoption rates of 53.4%.  In its quest to become a regional tech powerhouse, the country expects significant economic benefits and a more integrated society with the adoption of 5G Advanced technology.
