KUALA LAMPUR, MALAYSIA, 6th February 2025 – The Ministry of Digital Technology has partnered with Google Cloud to launch the “AI at Work 2.0” initiative to deploy generative artificial intelligence tools to 445,000 government employees.

This step is intended to improve the efficiency and modernize the services offered to the citizens of the nation. Through the initiative, public officers will have access to more sophisticated AI systems that automate administrative processes, enhance decision-making, and communication with citizens.

The government expects a drastic decline in manual work with the introduction of generative AI, which would greatly increase the strategic capacity officers are able to perform.

“This partnership marks a noteworthy advancement towards more efficient and responsive public service,”

The Minister of Digital noted. “With generative AI, we are ensuring that our officers have the capacity to meet the changing demands of our people.”

Ruma Balasubramanian, Managing Director of Google Cloud Southeast Asia, pointed at the game-changing potential of this initiative:

“Working with Malaysia’s Ministry of Digital, we intend to use generative AI to improve public service for Malaysia. We will do everything to help Malaysia on its path to digital transformation.”

The ‘AI at Work 2.0’ program incorporates intensive training sessions with the aim of ensuring that all public officers are adequately trained to operate the new AI tools introduced to the public. The initiative will also create methodologies for steady evaluation and modification of the AI tools to ensure their relevance to the constantly changing requirements of public service.

This effort contributes to the overarching digital strategy of Malaysia which seeks the application of modern technologies in boosting performance of the public sector as well as citizen participation.

The government has been pushing several strategies to make Malaysia the center of digital transformation in the region. As the rollout of the program commences, citizens can anticipate improved engagements with government services, swifter processing times, and more responsive frame timeliness to queries.

The Digital Ministry intends to oversee the implementation and collect relevant data to affirm that the goals of the initiative are achieved. More information regarding the ‘AI at Work 2.0’ initiative, such as its particular use cases and precise dates, will be made within a few weeks.

As always, the Ministry invites all public officers and citizens to follow official communication platforms for the latest information.  This indicates further progress in the development of a more responsive public service in Malaysia and demonstrates the government’s dedication and investment in technology for the advancement of the country.
