Hanoi, Vietnam – 06/02/2025: Nokia has made headlines with a new story about collaborating with the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) that aims to improve air traffic communication in Vietnam.

The objective is to take out the current Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transport system and put in place Internet Protocol/Multi-Protocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) systems, boosting security and trust in southern Vietnam.

This modernization will modernize the air traffic control of Ho Chi Minh city ATC (Air Traffic Control) Center by providing a mission-critical essential transmission system that will help in the proficient controlling of air traffic.

The network implementation is approximated to be ready by the second quarter of 2025 and fulfills the International Civil Aviation Organization regulations.

Nokia IP/MPLS solution will enable VATM to have advanced operations, analytics, and network range, which will increase operational efficiency.

The network will have a low entrance barrier for users, high cyber security, and opportunities for future adaption to new threats, like quantum computing.

Ho Sy Tung, Deputy General Director at VATM said that in order to secure the generating trust of air traffic safety, the networks need to be robust and dependable.

“Air traffic networks, at all times, need to be exceptionally secure and reliable to ensure the highest levels of safety can be achieved,” he said.

He has pointed out Nokia’s long experience when he states, “Nokia already possesses vast experience in aeronautical navigation with 20 air traffic control networks implemented around the globe.”

In his comments, Jonathan Goh, Head of Enterprise Business at Network Infrastructure, Southeast Asia North, Nokia spoke on the importance of the deal.

“Our mission-critical network solutions have earned the trust of customers around the globe, which is why we are always able to achieve great results,” he stated.

Goh also said that Nokia’s IP/MPLS technology would improve the safety and effectiveness of Vietnam’s air traffic control network.

This partnership marks a notable step towards enhancing the safety and effectiveness of aviation in Vietnam through the application of advanced technology.
