Battery Traceability Milestone: NTT DATA Connects with Catena-X
TOKYO, JAPAN, 22ND APRIL, 2025 – NTT DATA, the global leader in digital transformation, has declared successful interoperability between the Battery Traceability Platform of Japan and the Catena-X automotive data space of Europe.
The participation of this project in the NEDO-led “Digital Infrastructure Development Project” marks the beginning of global seamless and secure data exchange within the entire EV supply chain.
These demonstrations occurred under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Japan Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA) and Catena-X Automotive Network e.V. in the month of April, 2024, towards promoting data standardization and connectivity across the European automotive sector.
The major problem being addressed is secure sharing of data without losing the architectural integrity of each system in what, in principle, are two different infrastructures.
In building an intermediate layer to address authentication, data protocols, and data models, NTT DATA bridged most differences while ensuring the integrity of the system.
The Battery Traceability Platform is the first major use case of the Ouranos Ecosystem in Japan and will enable companies and countries to capture usage data and lifecycle information about electric vehicle batteries.
Proving success in interoperability with Catena-X for NTT DATA thus paves the way for international carbon footprint data exchange, which will support sustainability targets.
NTT DATA will partner with NEDO, METI, and many other global partners to finalize the parts of the commercialization of interoperable data spaces.
These initiatives will be critical to supporting carbon neutrality, transparency across supply chains, and circular economy initiatives.
It is a success that makes Japan and Europe world leaders in creating a unified global data infrastructure for the future of mobility.
