Orange’s Bold Move with Ericsson Could Change Mobile Forever
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, 17TH APRIL 2025–Orange has chosen Ericsson to upgrade the capacity of their mobile network while at the same time reducing energy consumption by 30 percent.
This is in alignment with Orange’s plans towards restructuring their infrastructure Green by using green technology in multiple European regions.
As part of the collaboration Orange will install Ericsson’s dual-band Radio 4490 along with other products designed to improve efficiency and decrease energy consumption.
These solutions are projected to significantly enhance user experience in Orange’s high-traffic zones while reducing their carbon footprints.
“This partnership allows us to maximize the output of our systems while staying within our goals of supporting emission reductions,”
Said Michaël Trabbia, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at Orange.
“Our priority is still on high-tech solutions, but those which respect the envelope of resources we have.”
Frederico Navarro, Head of Ericsson France, commented that
“This contract proves network energy efficiency is a must have, not a nice to have. We are pleased to be part of Orange’s bold initiatives.”
The initiative will focus on Spain, Poland, and France. These countries have high growth potential in terms of data usage.
Ericsson has designed state-of-the-art hardware which allows operators to enhance their throughput without drawing additional power-hungry infrastructure.
Telecom companies are under growing pressure to balance emissions cut targets with ever-increasing data demand.
The potent combination of 5G and AI summons the demand for intelligent efficient infrastructure, thus optimizing overall functionality of equipment.
More information about the dates of each phase of the rollout schedule has not been published yet.
Trials previously shown by both Orange and Ericsson regarding power efficiency and speed improvement have shown very promising results already.
This places Orange as one of the very first major telecommunications operators in Europe to actively pursue wide-reaching expansion of infrastructure for 5G networks in a manner which prioritizes eco-sustainability.
