Microsoft Launches AI Safety Resources for Safer Internet Day 2025
Singapore ,18th February 2025, – To address the threats posed by AI-produced content, Microsoft is announcing new efforts coinciding with Safer Internet Day 2025. Their ninth Global Online Safety Survey has revealed a considerable increase in the usage of AI; in 2023, 39 percent was reported.
However now in 2025, 51% of respondents have admitted to using AI tools. Attention to growth has also increased; concerns about generative AI have now grown to 88% of respondents, compared to last year’s 83%.
A major finding of the survey showed that 73% of users confessed to being unable to recognize an AI-generated image: indeed, the dangers lie within deep fakes and online frauds.
This is the very reason Microsoft is launching such fresh components in education to drive AI literacy and responsible use. Their new partnership with Childnet will develop content that helps young people understand and avoid risks from AI-generated things such as deep fakes. Also newly released was
“CyberSafe AI: Dig Deeper,” an educational Minecraft game encouraging kids to learn ethics and safety around AI in ways that engage them.
For older adults, Microsoft has partnered with Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from the AARP, providing the AI Guide for Older Adults: a guide that tells the benefits and the risks of AI, with tips to avoid scams. Also, Microsoft now trains all OATS call-center staff on AI-related matters.
The firm also continues to advocate for the balancing of AI safety policies, by which privacy and free expression should be emphasized while ensuring proportionate regulations.
According to Microsoft, the updating of laws by legislators to fight abusive AI-generated content while creating enabling conditions where essential services, like productivity software, do not have to endure normative curbs.
With these efforts, Microsoft aims to empower individuals of all ages with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the evolving digital landscape safely.
