Sony Group has finally launched its mainnet blockchain, called Soneium, along with a reimagined crypto asset trading services and an NFT issuance platform taking a leap into Web3. This move is under the spearheaded initiative of Sony Block Solutions Labs, S.BLOX Inc., and SNFT Inc. in order to make Web3 simpler and give creators more power over themselves and engage their fans.

Under the vision of “Realize the Open Internet that Transcends Boundaries,” the Soneium mainnet network has been launched after months of testing on its predecessor, Soneium Minato. The network has already proven its potential by hosting entertainment apps such as games, NFTs, and financial tools, with more than 14 million accounts and 47 million transactions. Developers who build applications on Soneium Minato can now smoothly transition to Soneium. The production version also allows users to make real crypto payments within apps and thus opens avenues for creators to monetize their content while also fostering vibrant fan communities.

“By simplifying blockchain interactions through intuitive platforms and real-world applications, Soneium empowers creators and users alike to embrace the next era of the internet. From protecting intellectual property to fostering global fan engagement, we’re making it easier for anyone to innovate and connect in meaningful ways.”
-Sota Watanabe, Director of Sony BSL

Sony’s S.BLOX Inc. via this initiative has revealed a new-look cryptoasset exchange service which was formerly called WhaleFin. The revamped exchange service features an improved UI, a mobile application to be launched soon, and support for more currencies. To mark the occasion, the company is offering Bitcoin worth ¥3,000 in the form of registration and trade bonuses to its new users.

Starting from February 2025, SNFT Inc. would launch an NFT-based Fan Marketing Platform enabling businesses to effortlessly issue NFTs and engage in analysis through engagement metrics. This platform can be accessed conveniently without a stand-alone crypto wallet, instead by social login directly for easy NFT management. The entertainment arms of Sony are also moving into NFTs, and some of its initiatives include Sony Music Publishing in Japan distributing limited-edition NFTs as rewards for fans of artists like the girl group SANDAL TELEPHONE. For its part, Sony Pictures Entertainment in Japan will provide free exclusive content to buyers of Prime Video.

Sony’s focus is on Web3’s intricate design, and they want to bring comprehensive solutions from the blockchain infrastructure to the application layer. They believe it will improve creativity and engagement. By integrating blockchain technology into fan experiences, Sony Group is strengthening its position at the forefront of Web3 innovation, making way for an interactive and decentralized internet. Networking with AI at the core is transforming the world of security and connectivity in retail.
